Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Department of Archaeology can work as an academician in local and foreign universities if they meet various conditions of universities (getting enough scores from foreign language exams such as ALES, ÜDS / YDS, graduating with a high grade point average, etc.). If the graduated students get the required score from KPSS, they can be employed in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, General Directorate of Museums, Monuments Board, the various units such as the Cultural and Natural Heritage Protection Board, and especially in many museums throughout Turkey. Similarly, they can find the opportunity to work in the Protection Application and Inspection Offices established within the bodies of Municipalities and Governorships, as well as in other state institutions. Large construction projects such as BOTAŞ and Marmaray require salvage excavations, where a large number of archaeologists on contract are employed. The private museums and research centers with recently incising numbers in Turkey also employ a number of archaeologists. Journals, digital magazines and publishing houses studying in the field of archaeology also employ archaeologists occasionally. The graduates with sufficient language skills can work as licensed tourist guides after receiving the Tourist Guiding training given by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. In addition to these, they can be employed in other branches of the tourism sector.
Why international students should choose this department to study
The Archaeology Department of Anadolu University is one of the important departments in our country in terms of different parameters. In our department, undergraduate (Archaeology), Master’s Degree (Classical Archaeology) and Ph.D. (Classical Archaeology) education is given.
A number of scholars who have been educated in different schools, cover all fields of Classical periods, and the field is supported by scholars from Protohistory and Near Eastern Archaeology. The university has a central library with a vast collection of archaeological studies. Additionally, members of the department carry out archaeological excavations in Çatalhöyük and Side, and scientific surveys in Ancient Phrygia. The department has courses in English, French and German for the Erasmus Students. Courses in ancient Greek and Latin are a part of the educational process for all students. Besides, Eskişehir is chosen as one of the safest cities in the world every year. Eskişehir, with three universities hosting students, is one of the major educational student cities of Turkey. The city is connected to Istanbul and Ankara by high-speed train lines. In the student-friendly city, culture and art activities are intensely active. Public transportation is well developed in the city. There are many museums, theatre halls, opera halls, cinemas, galleries and concert halls in the city. Besides, since the city is located in Ancient Phrygia, it is very close to the ancient sites such as Gordion, Pessinus and Aizonai, or to some important archaeological places such as the Phrygian Valley and Yazılıkaya.
