Department of Musicology
General Information about the Department
The discipline of musicology which involves the issues such as sound, aesthetics, musical theories and analyzes, music education, psychology of music, ethnology of music, musical terminology, musical notation and bibliography of music explores the historical development of world music cultures and by comparing these cultures brings the information it has produced into use to produce new information. Accordingly, the discipline of musicology can be defined as not only a discipline that deals with the history of music but also a large field of study that compromises with the examination of close interactions with other important scientific areas like language, religion, medicine, physic, mathematics, philology, archeology, folklore and etc. The program received the approval of establishment in 2010 and started educational and research activities in 2010-2011 academic year under the Department of Musicology.
Career Opportunities
The graduates of Musicology can continue to their postgraduate education and get into the academical position. In the direction of the education they take, they can make musical authorship and musical critic and furthermore, they can find job opportunities in musical teaching, musicology and culture and art counseling fields.

The department provides a detailed education on musicology discipline, Western music theory and its history, as well as education on historical musicology in the field of Turkish music. Education is supported with courses such as Ottoman Turkish, Turkish music history and theory.
