Department of Journalism

General Information About the Department

The department was first established as the Publication and Press Department in 1982, which was renewed as the Journalism Department in 2001. The department itself is divided into two majors, with further branches beneath them, providing an up-to-date curriculum. Accordingly, General Journalism Major consists of the branches of Journalism, Radio and Television Journalism, Publication Ethics and Law, Publication Theories, and Publication Business Management and Economics. Publication Broadcasting Techniques Major consists of the branches of Web Publishing, Publishing Design, and Press Photography.

Graduates may work in all departments that operate in the fields of media and communication. In detail, graduates may find job opportunities in the fields of journalism, radio and television journalism, photography, press administration and economics, publication design, and online publication, which are based on the department’s applied branches and curriculum. Accordingly, our graduates will be equipped with the ability to operate in every level of multimedia publishing in newspapers, radio, and television.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the department are currently employed in a variety of jobs such as correspondents, reporters, photojournalists, intelligence chiefs, editors, news directors, editor in chiefs, page designers, visual directors, web designers, web publishers, bloggers, social media experts, news cameramen, visual editors, news anchors, radio and television programmers, and documentary producers and directors. Students may also aspire to work in various other fields by taking elective courses from other departments, enrolling in minors or second majors, and gaining expertise in branches other than their own.
