General Information about the Department

Primary School Mathematics Teacher Education Program is a bachelor's degree program in the Department of Mathematics and Science Education in the Faculty of Education. The program offers required and elective courses, theory and practice courses related to the subject matter, teaching professional knowledge, and general knowledge. Theoretical courses are carried out in classes equipped with technological facilities. Practical courses are given in two academic terms with the collaboration of the Faculty of Education, provincial directorates of National Education, and Training Schools and with the supervision of course teachers and teachers in training schools. All theoretical courses in the Primary School Mathematics Teaching Program especially emphasize the microstructure-property-performance relationships and applications of these, which are constructed in mathematics and education fields. Primary School Mathematics Teacher Education Program was founded with the aim of training mathematics teachers who will teach in middle school (5th - 8th grades). The program, which trained students in the Department of Primary Education between the years 1998-2016, has accepted students for the academic year of 2016. The number of students admitted to the department has been determined as 60 students in the 2020-2021 academic year. The Primary School Mathematics Teacher Education Program has six professors, three associate professors and six assistant professors.

Career Opportunities

Students who graduate from the Primary School Mathematics Teacher Education Program can work as mathematics teachers in both public and private schools, and have the opportunity to work in education specialist positions in public institutions and the private sector. There are also opportunities to work as an academic in science and education faculties.
