General Information about the Department

The Department of Performing Arts was founded in 1989. This department has the peculiarity of being the first one to compare to larger cities such as Ankara, İstanbul and İzmir. In the attempt to widespread the education of theatre and opera, the department of Performing Arts became a model to other Universities so they may create Theatre Department of their own. There are two programs in the department of Performing Arts: Program in Drama and Program in Opera. Besides the main theoretical lectures, the basic and progressive performance courses are also given in the first four semesters in the Drama Program. During the last four semesters various lectures based on different perspectives provide students the opportunity to make their own synthesis on the stage. In the Program of Opera, the students are given eight semesters undergraduate study after the preparatory year. In the program, besides basic courses such as vocal training and solfege, the students are given different elective courses to gain additional information and skills to improve themselves. Education in both programs are reinforced by both national and international level of project partnerships and collaborations, seminars and workshops.

Career Opportunities

The students who graduate from the Program in Opera may have the opportunity to take part in State Operas or in some projects as soloists or chorists. The ones who graduate from the Program in Drama may become performers in State Theatres, city theatres, private theatres, cinema and television. Besides those opportunities, the graduates may also be employed as frontman and voice actors.
