General Information about the Department

In the economy, while the private sector produces goods and services for individual needs and private benefits, the public sector produces goods and services for social needs and social benefits. In a sense, Public Finance is interested in the separation of duties in business between the private sector and the public sector. Public Finance is a discipline dealing with what the public duties of governments should be, how these duties should be fulfilled, what the sources of costs of these duties should be, and how the sources should be financed. The Department of Public Finance researches the public sector and its components – tax and taxation, government budgeting, government borrowing, fiscal policy, health and educational systems, social security system, public administration, and state-owned enterprises and public entities. The main objective of the Department of Public Finance, which consists of four departments, namely Public Finance Theory, Budgeting and Fiscal Planning, Fiscal Economics and Fiscal Law; to provide the students with the necessary scientific and professional equipment to take responsibility as an auditor or manager in the public sector in general. For these purposes, we have a detailed program that will make it possible to understand all aspects of public finance and tax problems, courses such as Public Administration, Macro-Economic Theory, Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Government Budgeting, Public Economics, Fiscal Policy, Tax Enforcement Law, and Tax Penal Law.

Graduates have job opportunities in public services and private sectors. In public services they can work as a financial inspector, account expert, controller, expert Ministry of Treasury and Finance, inspector in public and private banks including the Central Bank, ruler in tax courts and in private sector as independent accountant and financial consultant.

Regarding the Department of Public Finance at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences was founded in 1958 as one of the first departments of Anadolu University and contains high quality of education and academic staff, technological knowledge, and institutionalism. Students will also gain familiarity with the information system Thomson Reuters, which is available in the faculty’s trading room.
