About the Department
Our department, which is located in Anadolu University, Faculty of Education, includes the Social Studies Teacher Education Program. Our department was established in 1998. Various programs at undergraduate and graduate levels are carried out by the faculty members of our department. These; Social Studies Education Program at undergraduate level, Social Studies Education Master's Program, Ph.D. in Social Studies Education and Character and Value Education Distance Master Program without Thesis. With the Social Studies Teacher Education Undergraduate Program, social studies teachers are trained for secondary schools. In the Social Studies Teacher Education Program, compulsory field education, teaching profession information, general culture courses and elective courses are included. Courses are carried out both theoretically and practically. Our Social Studies Teacher Education Program was accredited for 5 years until 2023 by the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Teacher Education Programs (EPDAD) in 2018. In addition, studies are being carried out to ensure the continuity of the accreditation of our undergraduate program. As of the 2020-2021 academic year, our department has 5 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, 1 Assistant Professor, 2 Lecturers, and 3 Doctor Research Assistants.
Career Opportunities
Teacher candidates who graduate from the Social Studies Teacher Education Program in our department can work as social studies teachers in public schools or private education institutions. In addition, they can work in these branches due to the courses such as History and Geography, which they study intensively in the program. After graduating from a bachelor's degree, social studies teacher candidates can continue their graduate and doctorate programs and make an academic career. Besides the academic opportunities in Turkey, graduates can receive scholarships from different regions of the world and continue their education.
