Finance - Ph.D.

General Information about the Program

The main purpose of the program is to provide advanced theoretical knowledge and structure of the foundation for empirical tools to be used in financial research. For this purpose, the program is designed to develop the students’ skills and competencies that will enable them to follow current debates in finance literature and produce original and qualified scientific works. The program includes both theoretical and practical components related to financial risk management, corporate finance, financial institutions and markets, capital asset pricing and portfolio management. Therefore, a wide variety of topics in finance are offered to students to gain the skills and competencies they should use throughout their careers.

The program is designed to be completed in 8 semesters. In the first year of the program, students are required to take a total of 8 courses, 5 compulsory and 3 elective courses. Topics covered in compulsory courses include International Financial Management, Financial Risk Management and Portfolio Management. Elective courses are offered for students to gain in-depth knowledge on specific topics, regarding their area of interest. All courses in the program allow the students to broaden and deepen knowledge of the foundations of finance theory, as well as conduct their own research. In the second year of the program, the student is expected to pass the qualifying exam and make a thesis proposal. Students who successfully defend their thesis at the end of the program are entitled to receive a Ph.D. in finance.
