General Information about the Program

The Department of Pharmacognosy is responsible for providing knowledge on topics such as production of pharmaceutical raw materials from natural sources, folkloric uses and chemical analyses of plants, phytotherapy, etc. The principal education philosophy of the department has been to provide a sound professional training which has been consistent with the current scientific and technological state of the art background supported by practice through laboratory applications in Pharmacognosy.

Career Opportunities

Pharmacognosy is priority for the ones who aim to become an academician in their field. Graduates can work in pharmaceutical industry, R&D departments, quality control units especially on drugs of biological origin. Freelance pharmacists have a higher level of knowledge on the correct use of herbal products and food supplements from biological origin. Graduates of biology, chemistry, chemistry/food/bio-engineering can work in R&D departments related to pharmaceutical, food, and biotechnology after obtaining MSc degree followed by a PhD degree.
