Proficiency in Arts - Department of Sculpture
General Information about the Program
Led by an active and accomplished group of working artists, the postgraduate program in the Department of Sculpture encourages a flexible, liberated, experimental and progressive exploration of the transformative role of art. Our Proficiency in Arts program responds to the wishes of the students who would like to get a comprehensive education with the contemporary researches in the field of culture and art, within the framework of art and human relations.
Sculpture artists are typically self-employed, working in their own studios and selling their art to collectors and galleries. People with a Proficiency in Art degree may choose to become researchers in the field and can be employed in higher education institutions by fulfilling other requirements. They also can teach at schools if they get a teaching certificate. Sculpture artists work on public/private art installations and create commissioned works for various businesses, arts organizations, or personal collectors. They restore works of art, or create sculptural reproductions and models for television, films etc.
We elaborately engage the emergent philosophical, critical and technical conditions that shape art making today. Our mission is to continually develop a meticulous yet supportive environment that leads to the growth of individual artists. Our task is not only decoding the emergent meanings of materials, methods and movements; it is producing an art capable of modelling significant intensities, experiences and sensations relevant to our time.
Why international students should choose this department to study
The department of sculpture, which aims to enable the students to achieve an original style while transferring design to the material and to express what they want to say with their own art view, offers the opportunity to experience the innovations and current approaches brought by technology as well as the traditional materials and methods used in the art of sculpture.
Our workshops, renewed in 2013, have suitable conditions in terms of ventilation and work safety. In stone, metal, wood, jewelry, basic sculpture, anatomy, polyester and bronze casting workshops, our students are provided the equipment and materials suitable for every technique, with the opportunity to realize their designs without having to worry about cost.
